Staff AI Engineer - Notebooks at Datadog Datadog Notebooks provide customers with a collaborative surface for ad-hoc data analysis, technical documentation, incident postmortems and runbooks. Our vision is that in Notebooks users can collaborate with each other and with AI agents seamlessly. We are looking for a product-oriented Staff Engineer to lead the development of AI-powered features. In this role you will work closely with product management to envision compelling workflows, coordinate with Datadog’s AI platform teams to leverage internal tools, and build AI agents that can emulate deep technical expertise. You will help our engineers become more skilled and comfortable with AI-oriented development by building extensible systems, establishing standards, and leading by example. As a technical anchor in the organization, you will provide oversight and guidance for our full scope of systems, AI and otherwise.

There is a tremendous opportunity for broad impact: we want to set the standard for AI development in observability products, starting in Notebooks but extending to Datadog’s other products.

What You’ll Do:

Lead the development of high-visibility AI product initiatives

Navigate tradeoffs between time-to-market and feature quality as we iterate towards excellence

Keep up-to-date with standards and best practices in the rapidly evolving AI landscape

Architect, implement and oversee systems from inception through deployment and delivery to customers

Lead the development, maintenance and growth of key services, APIs and user experiences

Provide technical oversight and leadership across organizational boundaries

Mentor and grow other engineers on the team and beyond

Who You Are:

You have a BS/MS/PhD in a scientific field or equivalent experience

You have 10+ years of relevant engineering experience

You have several years of experience leading cross-team initiatives in product-oriented development

You have strong customer empathy and a drive to make an impact

You have experience building agentic workflows for customer-facing products, or are strongly interested in doing so

Salary : The reasonably estimated yearly salary for this role at Datadog is $234,000—$300,000 USD.
