Design and ship software systems layered on top of existing large language models, with emphasis on quality measurement and dependable production behavior of autonomous AI features. This is a hands-on staff-level position with broad ownership over both technical approach and product direction. It does not involve training models from scratch.## What you'll do* **Create end-to-end evaluation frameworks** that track and raise the quality of AI agents.* Prototype newer agentic approaches, including multi-agent designs and learning from feedback.* **Develop supporting services** and coordination components that keep agents stable once deployed.* Follow current research on language models and agents, and turn promising ideas into practical experiments.* Take ownership of major parts of the product early on and help set how the team builds agent systems.## What we're looking for* Staff-level experience in an early-stage, 0 to 1 B2B SaaS startup environment; startup experience is essential.* Hands-on experience working with **AI agents**.* Experience experimenting with agentic techniques such as multi-agent systems.* Strong proficiency in Python.* Extensive experience building in ML and AI, with practical skill in prompting language models.* An undergraduate degree in computer science from a highly ranked school.* Clear communication, both written and in person.* Drive, grit and a strong sense of ownership.## Bonus points* Master's or PhD in AI, ML or language models.* Previous experience as a founder or early engineer.## Benefits* Health, dental and vision coverage## Location and work model* San Francisco, California, United States* On-site, 5 days per week in office* Full-time## Compensation, as the posting describes it* Equity* Retirement plan* Flexible time offPay$225k to $350kUSD base a year
