Job Description

Job Description Description:

Role Overview The AI Engineer Intern will work with our Product Development team to explore how artificial intelligence can enhance smart home and IoT systems. You’ll help design and test early-stage AI models that interpret real-world data from sensors, voice inputs, and connected devices to make environments more adaptive and intelligent.

This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to learn machine learning, data science, and edge computing within a real-world startup setting. You’ll collaborate closely with our CTO and engineering team to turn ideas into working prototypes, learn modern AI frameworks, and contribute to the foundation of our flagship smart home ecosystem.

We’re looking for curious, motivated problem-solvers who want to learn by doing, experiment with emerging technologies, and grow their technical and creative skills in an innovation-driven team.

This internship is for 15-20 hours per week and will last approximately 2 to 3 months. The role is hybrid, with some work being done remotely and other work done onsite at our physical office location at 440 Burroughs, Detroit, MI. 48202.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in designing and training AI and machine learning models to analyze sensor, environmental, and behavioral data. Support data collection, preprocessing, and model evaluation workflows. Collaborate with software and hardware teams to integrate AI algorithms into IoT systems and prototypes. Experiment with computer vision, speech recognition, and natural language models to enhance system intelligence. Help document findings, workflows, and experiments for internal knowledge sharing. Participate in brainstorming sessions, sprint meetings, and demo reviews to contribute ideas for R&D innovation. Requirements:

Preferred Skills Strong foundation in Python and familiarity with libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, NumPy, or Scikit-learn. Basic understanding of machine learning concepts, data preprocessing, and model evaluation. Interest in IoT systems, smart home devices, or context-aware computing. Familiarity with data visualization tools or notebook environments (e.g., Jupyter, Colab). Strong curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to learn new tools and frameworks. Excellent collaboration and communication skills in a remote or hybrid environment. Learning Opportunities

Gain real-world experience in applying AI to IoT and smart environment systems. Work directly with senior engineers and the CTO on live prototype development. Learn how to design, test, and deploy AI models from concept to proof-of-concept stage. Explore edge AI, contextual intelligence, and predictive system design. Build a professional portfolio through meaningful contributions to PWG’s flagship product. Opportunity to continue into advanced R&D or engineering roles as the company grows.
