For our EPA contract, we are seeking an AI Engineer to join our team. You will design, develop, and deploy intelligent systems to assist in workflow automation, fraud detection, and resource optimization.
Responsibilities
Architect, develop, and maintain AI agents and applications using modern LLMs, reinforcement learning, or hybrid reasoning systems
Ingest, preprocess, and fuse multimodal data sources (e.g., text, tabular, image, sensor)
Develop supervised, unsupervised, and semi-supervised machine learning models tailored to domain tasks
Build and maintain APIs, microservices, and integration layers to support deployment of agent capabilities
Design reasoning and decision-making pipelines within agents (e.g., planning, constraint solving, sequential decision-making)
Generate multimodal outputs (e.g., reports, visualizations, alerts, summaries)
Develop and monitor metrics for agent performance, drift detection, and model validation
Collaborate with grants / compliance / audit teams to understand domain needs (waste, fraud, abuse)
Conduct code reviews, write documentation, and apply best practices in software engineering and ML operations
Stay current with advances in AI/ML, and recommend new tools and architectures for incorporation
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
Formal training in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or related field
Proven experience developing AI/ML systems, ideally in production
Hands-on experience with modern LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, GPT, LLaMA, etc.) or similar large-scale language models
Strong proficiency in Python, and familiarity with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, etc.)
Experience developing APIs, microservices, and deployment tooling
Expertise in data ingestion, feature engineering, and multimodal fusion
Experience with both supervised and unsupervised learning methods
Familiarity with reasoning, planning, or hybrid AI systems
Experience in workflow optimization, anomaly detection, fraud/waste/abuse detection (especially in a government or financial domain) is a plus
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Security, Clearances & Additional Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen or meet required eligibility for government contracts
Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearance or background check
Willingness to adhere to contract-specific security, compliance, and auditing protocols
Ability and willingness to travel occasionally, if required by contract (e.g., EPA site visits)
