ProTrustee is seeking an AI engineer focused on applied AI. This is a full-time role; we prefer candidates who can work in our Charleston, SC office several days per week, though we will consider exceptional remote candidates.
About us
We’re modernizing technology for trust administration with practical AI-powered features on a platform that helps trust officers manage compliance, operations, and accounting. We’re a collaborative, fast-moving, hands-on team with high autonomy and room to grow.
Responsibilities and expectations
Build and ship AI features using existing services (e.g., Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Anthropic, Vertex, Bedrock).
Implement pragmatic retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines over internal data (documents, SQL, files), prompt strategies, and tool use.
Define evaluation criteria and measure output quality, latency, cost, and reliability; run A/B experiments.
Apply guardrails, redaction, and data privacy best practices suitable for financial and PII data.
Integrate with our stack: TypeScript/NodeJS services and React UI; collaborate on API design and UX.
Add tracing, logging, and metrics for AI calls; manage cost controls and fallbacks.
Write tests, review code, follow secure coding practices, and document decisions.
Note: This role focuses on applied AI using existing tools and services—not training deep models from scratch.
Qualifications
2–5 years of professional software development, with hands-on delivery of AI-powered product features.
Practical experience with one or more LLM platforms (Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Anthropic, Vertex, Bedrock).
Experience with RAG and embeddings/vector stores (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, Redis, or similar).
Strong with TypeScript/NodeJS; familiarity with React; Python is a plus.
Comfort with relational data models; Postgres is a plus.
Exposure to orchestration frameworks (LangChain/LlamaIndex) or equivalent custom approaches.
Understanding of secure coding, secret management, and handling sensitive data.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD, and monitoring is a plus.
Product-oriented, iterative, and able to balance quality, cost, and time to value.
Benefits
Salary commensurate with experience.
Employer-sponsored health insurance.
Generous paid time off and holiday schedule.
Flexible policy around in-person and hybrid work.
