Zelis is hiring an
Agentic AI Engineer
to design, build, deploy, and transition production-ready agentic AI for complex healthcare financial workflows.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with business leaders and engineers to spot high-value AI opportunities
Convert complex healthcare financial problems into scalable agentic AI solutions
Select the right approach for each use case: apply AI when reasoning and ambiguity are required, and use deterministic software, rules, and controls when they improve reliability
Design, build, and deploy production-ready AI agents and applications
Develop agent workflows, tool integrations, APIs, data pipelines, and orchestration layers
Partner with stakeholders through discovery, implementation, launch, and handoff
Drive improvements in automation, decision support, accuracy, and operational efficiency
Identify reusable agentic patterns that strengthen the core platform
Resolve ambiguous problems without an existing playbook
Validate outcomes, establish guardrails, and transition solutions to long-term owning teams
Requirements
~3–5 years building software or AI products in startups, applied AI, innovation, consulting, or similar fast-moving environments
Experience taking AI or production software from prototype through launch
Hands‑on experience with LLMs, agents, RAG, tool use, APIs, or modern AI frameworks
Ability to partner with internal business stakeholders or customers to understand complex problems, lead technical discussions, and translate needs into practical solutions
Strong software engineering fundamentals in at least one modern programming language
Experience deploying cloud-based production systems
Capacity to evaluate agent behavior, system performance, and appropriate AI guardrails
Comfort operating in ambiguity and owning work from discovery through handoff
Strong communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders
Demonstrated curiosity and hands‑on experimentation with AI through professional work, open source, personal projects, agents, automations, or other technical exploration
Builder mindset focused on curiosity, experimentation, and ownership
Preference for impact through what you have built, including experimentation with AI, building agents, and shipping projects

Base Salary Range USD 163,200 - 224,400 per year
